Pin Practice

I did a little ice climbing last winter, and I'm looking to do more this winter. I've got a lot of experience free climbing on rock, but no aid experience. I'd like to practice pin placement somewhere not too far from Seattle.

 

Rather than spending time tromping around in the woods searching for a crag no one cares about yet with some cracks in it that would be good to practice on, can you guys fill me in on where you went out to practice the first time or two?

Try the chossy stuff near the Renton drytool crag off hwy 900. Bring a brush to clean out the cracks. There is a bit you can nail on a ways left of the drytool routes, probably plenty more if you wander around. PM me if you want a partner, I need to practice placing copper heads one of these days.

The UW rock if they decide to tear it out for the 520 expansion.

Just find an area with boulders too small for sit-starts and pound the fuck out of them. Any granite talus pile should have some nailable cracks somewhere.
