Tokogirl Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Looking for a partner for a one day ascent of Sherpa Peak - probably the West Ridge. On Sunday July 27th. PM me if interested! Quote
Jens Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Don't forget to do the balanced rock! It is the highest point, if only by 18 inches. Quote
Tokogirl Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 (edited) Jens, size does matter!? I am hoping to do the balance rock as well as Sherpa if weather and time cooperate. Edited July 25, 2008 by Tokogirl Quote
Jordan Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I'm game. I live in Seattle though but have a car. Have a rope but no trad rack. I'm a good solid climber in good shape. Give me a ring if you're interested or email me jordanpaulmiller@msn.com 206-351-5585 Quote
Tokogirl Posted July 26, 2008 Author Posted July 26, 2008 Thanks for all the PMs and emails to climb! Hopefully I will have an opportunity to climb or ski with you in the future. There are 4 of us total. Two wanted to do the West Ridge but I think we will all end up on the North Ridge. We are leaving at 4a.m. to beat the bugs and heat of the day. How is the rappel to the col between the Balance Rock and Sherpa? Quote
Tom_Sjolseth Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 The true summit of Sherpa is triangulated at 8605. As far as I know, the balanced rock has never been triangulated, so any contention that it is higher (by 18 inches) is just opinion at this point.. unless you know something I don't. I'm not saying it couldn't be higher (it's damned close), but I am saying that making the statement that it is and deeming it fact is a little pretentious without any solid evidence other than subjective observation. Does anyone have any evidence supporting Jens' assertion that the balanced rock is higher? I would be interested to hear any developments on this. Quote
Tokogirl Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 Tongue and cheek about size. Glad you mentioned about BR being higher as it peaked my curiousity on alot of the rock outcroppings in the Enchantments. I did ask a local Leavenworth geologist/climber if he knew. He said he thought that the Balance Rock was registered at a slightly higher elevation but couldn't say how much higher. He will check it out and get back to me. Quote
