astrov Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 I know some of you ride ... Whidbey, et al. I'm gonna take the Basic Rider training course tomorrow. I need some boots as I threw away my hiking boots last summer (they had disintegrated). However, I do have some full-shanked nepal sportiva extreme "Tops" for ice climbing. Could I use a full-shank boot or would it be too difficult to shift? Could Chouinard shift in ice climbing boots? Never ridden before so I confess ignorance Quote
Serenity Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 I ride motocross bikes for work, and I wear my La Sportiva Glaciers (Similar to Makalus). They work great. The firm platform is good for standing in the pegs for hours, and I have no problems shifting. Quote
Fairweather Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 As long as you can comfortably and reliably get your toe beneath the lever, you should be ok. But take a look at recent accident stats. Amazingly, they show folks who've taken rider safety certification actually have a higher accident/injury/fatality rate than non-participants. My guess is that this is because the training is on 250cc bikes. I wish the state would go back to a tiered/weight class system. Be careful--riding is a lot more dangerous than climbing. Quote
Crillz Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 You ride bikes for work, and you don't wear mx boots. Are you f'n kidding? Quote
Serenity Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Moto boots wouldn't cut it in my career field. Quote
Crillz Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 (edited) Are you wrenching on them? Military? Edited June 7, 2008 by Crillz Quote
astrov Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 thanks for the warning, Fairweather. the boots worked fine. They put me on a 200cc bike; it was the biggest they had. Almost everyone else was on a 125cc. Bear in mind I'm in Oregon, not Washington ... Quote
