billcoe Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I was looking at climbing vids on the Cove that Boner posted and tripped over this. Almost remember what life was like 30 years ago. Holy crap, this is some hot, insane shit! Link to video damn I'm old. Going to bed now! Quote

ivan Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 More evidence that the Grateful Dead suck ass it wasn't the grateful dead Jerry Garcia, Grateful Dead, whatever. sucks. for consistency's sake, listen to another traditional folk version and state for the record if it's jerry you dislike, or if you just have a preference for cock-rawked renditions like metallica's 8eOIU9ekSMk Quote
billcoe Posted April 28, 2008 Author Posted April 28, 2008 The Dubliners and the Pogues pretty much did a great job. Love the brogue. Jerry Garcia, to me, was and is a reminder that no matter how bad you suck, 90 percent of success is just showing up. Gives all of us with mediocre talents and skillz hope. Quote
ivan Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 i like the blue grass twang to jerry/grisman's version - the "shady grove" album has a fantastic version of the dismal sailor classic "off to sea once more" too Quote

The Metallica version is a very nice job of putting a hard-edged rock veneer to this traditional song - no 'butchering' whatsoever. The Thin Lizzy version is also quite nice. Quote
ivan Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 arguing about taste in food and music is of course silly, and in the past i've made fun of some songs only to love them later - the "whack fol the da-d-oh" line just sounds silly in a rock song though, in my humble opinion Quote
Hendershot Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 The only thing missing from that video was midgets. Quote
