dberdinka Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 So I've got a Forged Friend, an original single-stem Camalot and an orange alien all with busted trigger wires. None of which are easily replacable. I like these cams I want to fix them. Is there someone somewhere who fixes trigger wires for $$$$?? Quote
snoboy Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Ever visit Squamish? I used to do them for Valhalla Pure there, and I think they have someone else looking after them. ALiens are tricky, but do-able. Quote
underworld Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 i fixed a busted alien trigger wire using fishing line. it took me an evening, a lot of cursing and several tries. but it works. Quote
mountainmatt Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I am not so sure about the FF and Alien, but you can get trigger repair kits at Feathered Friends. They even have triggers for the old double stem camalots. They have triggers for other cams as well... Quote
pindude Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Wild Country and Black Diamond sell trigger repair kits directly: info is at their websites. Re. Aliens, CCH doesn't market a trigger repair kit, but you may be able to deal with them directly...although I've given up on using Aliens since the big QC and recall debacle. Quote
underworld Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 come to think of it, a buddy bootied an alien w/ a broken trigger. he sent it to cch and got it back in no time. $10. Quote
dberdinka Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 Anyone have any experience with this? Cam Doctor Fish does Cam repair at $7 a pop plus $10 shipping. Quote
Sol Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 i wouldn't send your cams to cch. it once took 14 months and 10 phone calls to get my cams back. Quote
genepires Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Dylan Taylor made a post here one time about fixing triggers with weed wacker string. I did it to one of mine and it works great. Pass the string through the cam holes and then melt it with a lighter to make a ball that won't go back through. Feed the string through trigger and other cam lobe and cut n melt at appropriate place. His post has photos and worth checking out if you are onthe cheap with the repairs. I'll show you next time. gene Quote
snoboy Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Anyone have any experience with this? Cam Doctor So-So. The crimping tool really isn't the right thing for the job. It'll work, but it won't be pretty. Quote
lancegranite Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I've done my own trigger repair many times. Use 1/16" wire rope and nico sleeves. The crimping tool will cost you a little, but you can easily pay for the whole setup by fixing a couple more units for friends. 1/16" does not repair Metolius or Aliens. Quote
snoboy Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 You neeed the 3/64" for Metolious, and those sleeves are harder to source. The smallest aliens are good to go with fishing tackle gear. Quote
