Yeah, thanks for the "historical context" Let me guess, either the Wikipedia Whiz strikes again, you've been watching the History Channel, or you dusted off the Time-Life books your uncle gave you in high school.

Remember the Pueblo? Anniversary January 23, 1968.

One day you're in international waters and a couple of fishing trawlers pass too close for no apparent reason. The next day all hell breaks lose and for 11 months you and all your compadres are beaten and tortured daily.

The U.S. erroneously assumed that the Soviet Union's international boundary applied to all communist countries. The North Koreans thought otherwise. What constituted international waters was in dispute. They apparently viewed the spy ship Pueblo as brazenly operating within their waters.

The U.S. signed a declaration admitting that we had violate N. Korean waters and apologizing for it in return for the release of the Pueblo's surviving crew.

The U.S. Navy also established a board of inquiry in a attempt to bring some of the crew to courts marshall, but public outcry shut that effort down. Perhaps the men in the photo were saluting the officers in charge of that little project.

History tends to dampen hysteria, except, of course, in the case of you and your kindred morons.
