murraysovereign Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Wow makes you wonder what you have to do nowadays to receive a 1st-degree conviction. Quote
fern Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I'm actually surprised and relieved they didn't let him off. Quote
builder206 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Let him off? How could that possibly have happened? Quote
archenemy Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Dude, they didn't put Dalmer to death for his crimes. Makes you wonder what the hell you need to do to earn that penalty Quote
Recycled Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Dahlmer did get death, it was just more conveniently administered than usual. Â http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/crime/serial-killers/jeffrey-dahmer/ Quote
archenemy Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 ewww. Â You are right though, I meant to say that he didn't get the death penalty. By the Jury. Quote

AlpineK Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I've never been convinced that putting somebody to death is the ultimate punishment. All you have to do with a death penalty is sit in your cell till they pull the plug then it's over. You only have a few months or a couple years to think about it. With life in prison you get the rest of your natural life to rot in your cell and think about all the stuff you can't do because you got caught. Hell, the prison doctors will help you live longer so you can sit in your cell and cry about all the, "cool," stuff your missing out on. Quote
selkirk Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Not to mention life in prison is cheaper for the public in the US than the death penalty Quote
G-spotter Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 They probably didn't convict him of 1st degree because it's quite likely that Dave Pickton was the brains behind the whole thing and some of the evidence that there is a publication ban on would predjudice the trial of Dave when they get around to arresting him, if it was revealed now.
