Does our "search" suck?

I cant seem to do a decent search here at the site. Is it me ?

What are some tips to find a specific thread, or mountain?

Mods should move this to "CC News"forum if it is productive.

I don't know, but I been told the new Gully GPS device can specifically find an obvious mountain. With that, and both hands searching, you be sure to find the thread head. Batteries not included.

Actually once you know how to use it the search works incredibly well, especially when trying to narrow down a search with a common keyword.

Wayne, you have to try many different spellings to get all the possible hits. Set Forums to All, Dates to newer than "blank" and older than "1 Day".

 

First try "Cooper Spur Ice", then try

 

+"Cooper Spur" +Ice

 

Then try "St. Peters Dome" (a bunch of good hits including a TR by animal) or

"St. Peter's Dome" (A TR by Bremerton John) or

"Saint Peter's Dome" (no hits) or

"Saint Peters Dome". (one hit- worst aid pitch, post by fgw")

 

Then try

 

+Peter +Dome (20 hits, none pertinent)

Yes put the name of the avatar in the specific field "Display Name Search" in combination with your search terms. Only posts from the avatar matching your terms will be displayed.

 

Only add the avatar field after you have gotten success in your search and want to narrow down the hits.

No, not by who started it, it takes into account all posts. I'm not sure if that is a feature we'd be able to provide, but can look into it.

jon, I just noticed that we have reached a milestone on the search options. Since cc.com is now over 7 years old... we can no longer search the oldest posts.

I can't find Layton's Zero Gully TR. It's like it got eaten by a marmot.

No it sucks..I use google advance settings to find TR's on this site...real easy, otherwise nothing over a year old pops up

 

for instance try searching Yellow Brick Road on this site..nothing comes up but if I use google the first return is Darins TR for Yellow Brick Road perfect

 

Even Layton cant find his original TR

 

What happened to my original TR?

It shows up on page two of the search results, and number 1 result on Google... either way gets you there.

 

I often find myself using Google site search, not just here, but many other sites as well.
