tanstaafl Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I'm heading to AZ for my brother's wedding in a week and planning to spend several days at Cochise. Does anyone have a guide they'd be willing to loan out for a week? thanks. Quote
jeh Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Have you seen this? Backcountry Rockclimbing in Southern Arizona I've never been, so I'm not sure how complete it is, but it looks like a good start. Will require a bit of printing though... J Quote
tanstaafl Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 sweet! I heard that was available but no one knew where. Looks like I'll be doing some printing... Quote
goatboy Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Hey! I recommend focusing on the East Stronghold and printing some pages such as: 1) Wasteland 2) What's My Line 3) Beeline 4) I've heard good things about Endgame but haven't done it myself. 5) I didn't really enjoy Days of Futures Passed as much as some others did. Give me a call if you'd like more info. I've been there a coupla times. Its a hell of a place. Quote
Off_White Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Forest Lawn/Pair a Grins - a great link up on the s end of the Rockfellows Abracadaver - if you're up for some 5.11 Knead Me - if you have a sick fascination with wide stuff Days of Future Passed - I liked it rather more than Goatboy did. Is it still 1/4" buttonheads on the face climbing? Inner Passage - this is the tunnel between a couple of the pillars, do it west to east and bring knee pads to have a better time. Ditto on Goatboy's other recommendations. I have the Kerry guide if you want to borrow it, but I'm down in the Olympia area. Quote
susan Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 kellie I've got a guide you can borrow. Eastside is nice, but camping is much better on the west side. Plus you have more larger, longer destinations. Susan Quote
tanstaafl Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 wow. Thanks everyone for the offers and suggestions. Turns out my partner has the Kerry book; I'm noting the route suggestions. I sure *hope* I'll be up for 5.11; we'll see how the !$*% elbow reacts to "real" climbing. GB, Susan, maybe a drink this Friday? Quote
goatboy Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 No can do -- I'm off for a sunrise wedding atop Steens Mtn in E Oregon -- brrr!!!!! Can't wait to hear about your sick ascents in the Stronghold, though.... OW - I don't remember any 1/4 inch bolts... Quote
tanstaafl Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 Oh that's right -- tell Kevin and Owyhee congrats for me. I'll do my best to "send that shit" in your honor. Quote
Otto Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Another good one is Absinthe of Mallet on Sheepshead. Varied climbing on clean rock, nice and long, less than 5.11, super fun. You might even find some quarter inch bolts. Quote
goatboy Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Oh that's right -- tell Kevin and Owyhee congrats for me. I'll do my best to "send that shit" in your honor. I will convey your congrats -- and YOU GO GIRL!!! Also -- curious about the comments regarding camping on the West Side -- it was described as nasty, full of broken glass, and trash (in every sense of the word) a few years ago by some friends who hated it. I haven't been to that side in a long time -- but the East Side has both a forest service campground (with bathroom) and primitive camping in pullouts along dirt roads, all super close to the approach trails....so, for me, it's not a bad way to go.
