MonkeyClimber Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 What is the best way to join sewn slings? Like in the picture linked below or some other way? http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=28353&limit=last1 Quote
Indy_jones Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 I've started to minimize any girth hitches...that seems to significantly weaken slings. how about using a biner? Quote
Mark_Husbands Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 seems like if you are going to girth hitch slings to slings, make them nylon. Quote
MonkeyClimber Posted June 16, 2007 Author Posted June 16, 2007 Thanks. What if you have dyneema or similar instead of nylon? Should you use a biner or is there another way to join them? Quote
Snide Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Use a biner. Given the lower diameter and lower melting point of dyneema, you'll likely sever or weld a girth hitch. Quote
genepires Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I think it depends on the circumstance to use a biner or girth hitch. If the biner will be loaded improperly (like joining slings around a tree) then a girth hitch is better. Using the slings as part of your leading a pitch protection (which can result in high forces) needs the full strength of your webbing and girth hitching may weaken it too much. So then a biner would be needed. Quote
