Gary_Yngve Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 on the fin... I heard the hanger was smashed so badly that it's hard to get a carabiner through. that bolt has been there for a long time... let it be. Quote
Alpinfox Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 I once saw a goat stroll across that little ridge without clipping the bolt. If the goat don't need it, I say the peoples don't need it neither. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Clipped it a few weeks ago just fine?? Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 The fucking goat wouldn't let me by. Seriously. Quote
goatboy Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 That thing was smashed fairly flat last I saw it (two weeks ago I think) -- but you could probably thread a sling through it....or maybe a very narrow-profile carabiner? Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 We're talking on the South Rib, or the one below Rabbit Ears on the SW Rib?? Both were fine two weeks ago, and I believe I climbed it a day or two after goat boy. The one on SW Rib IMHO is useless as I got a yellow TCU in a crack not more than two feet above it. We clipped the one downclimbing on the South Rib/Ridge because we are both chicken shit. Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 I believe Gary was referring to the South Arete route on SEWS. Quote
goatboy Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 I believe Gary was referring to the South Arete route on SEWS. Yes -- what cbs said...that's what I'm talkin' bout! Quote
mattp Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 I once read that the #1 cause of death for Mtn. Goats is falling. There's definitely places where I've seen a goat climb something where I would want a belay and, if no pro was available, I'd be thinking a bolt might be pretty nice. I don't need that bolt and nobody I know really does either, but I don't think it is doing any real harm. That is a spectacular beginners route and if somebody wants to be able to comfortably string it up for newbies I really don't object. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Saw a mountain goat get freaked out while two climbers were descending on the South Arete. Thought it was going to try downclimbing The Passenger. Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Didn't Snowbyrd have that same avatar image at one time? I keep thinking it's her. Quote

Blake Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 I'd like to see the bolt removed and the hole repaired, but I'd rather see it remain in its current state (usable) than smashed up, useless, and still there. Quote
sammy Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 As of Saturday, it was pretty smashed up. Difficult to get a biner into...perhaps impossible to get a biner oriented safely. Quote
