AllenN Posted February 5, 2002 Posted February 5, 2002 I love my invernos but they have just one problem; no gusseted tongue. So snow and water creeps in there over time on the climb and soaks my liner. Anyone have any ideas for solving this problem? Homemade gussets? thanks, -Allen Quote

Marcus_Engley Posted February 5, 2002 Posted February 5, 2002 AllenN This may sound a little ridiculous, but you could probably put a thin bead of weather stripping or silicone along the plastic on the boot, so the tongue presses down onto it when you lace up tight. I haven't done this with mine, but I'd bet it would work with some experimentation. m Quote
fern Posted February 5, 2002 Posted February 5, 2002 I think part of the problem is that the 'pleather' patch on the underside of the tongue gets cracks in it, so it's hard to seal it down. Try gooping a bunch of vaseline (or sunscreen/butter/whatever's handy) in there and then cinch the laces down tight. When my Scarpas were newer I once skied 5km across Garibaldi Lake under 6inches of water with dry feet before the tongues started leaking. But now they're a little worn and they get damp faster. Supergaiters work too, but they're a little sweaty for PNW type conditions. Quote
spacely Posted February 6, 2002 Posted February 6, 2002 Had this problem with some old Asolo rentals I bought for $35. I had some winshield sealer from a windshield shop. It looks like black licorice about 3/8" diameter. Put it between the tongue and the boot and seems to work well. I tried other weather-stripping materials but they always came off. BTW, just bought some Scarpa Alphas and looks like the tongue design isn't very good and may need to seal them up too. -spacely Quote
AllenN Posted February 7, 2002 Author Posted February 7, 2002 Thanks all for the ideas. As mentioned, I do wear gaitors but the water leaks in from below them. I'll try some stuff out and report back any success. thanks again. -Allen Quote
