I just bought a new peice of rope and would like to mark the middle of it. I know that Blue Water sells a "rope marking pen," but I was wondering if just using a Sharpie damages the nylon or has any other detrimental effects.

third, that. I have a BW pen cause the store is right around the corner and they are cheap, but if they aren't convenient then Sharpies are all fine.

I found the problem of getting high from markers is you end up with coloured nostrils. never had that problem gas huffing just loss of brain tissue and persistent headaches.

Gas Huffing and Sharpie Sniffing Washingtonians. You guys make me sick.

Ever hear of nitrus. Hippie crack will solve all your problems, especially having an excess of brain tissue.

Good to know Sharpies are fine on rope, though

I went to school in Burlington, Vermont. The deadheads there (and phishheads in more particular) don't need a show or a reason to get a tank, they just do.

Ice climbing in Vermont: Awesome (respectively)

Rock climbing in Vermont: Go to NH or NY

I get longer-lasting markings using a slender sewing needle to weave a contrasting color thread into the rope's sheath. Since it's woven throughout the sheath, my middle mark wears at the same rate as the sheath, and lasts the life of the rope... although I haven't really paid much attention since I predominantly use twin-ropes anymore...

I don't know where your from, but I do know that being from Oregon (Actually orginally the Northeast), I have been mocked by them Washingtonians on the few postings I've made. Oregonians unite

And spelling must be off due to the Nitrous in my more youthful days.

From the NE to Oregon - you go from one Portland and/or Salem to another one? That could be convenient, like keeping the same number when you switch area codes.

Did you try nitrous at a Dead show or were you an EMT with a tank of it in the first aid kit? (Ow, my hangnail... where is the nitrous??)
