Fairweather Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 we didn't need you in the first place. much to the horror of the religious right, more than 40% of children were born out of wedlock in 2005  That explains about 40% of modern societal ills. It's not only the "religious right" who believe kids do better with a dad in the picture. Quote
minx Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 (edited) Fairweather, you're under the mistaken impression that that statistic means that the father wasn't in the home. Many people, including several friends of mine, don't feel the need to have a piece of paper to validate their relationship. They live together and raise a family quite happily w/o ever getting married. Â I believe it's exceedingly important for a child to have an active father, preferably in the same home. not believing that marriage is mandatory doesn't mean believing in irresponsible parenting. sheesh! minx Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 cindy66-- i suppose that depends on how long they've been living together, what state they're in and wasn't included in the study i read. Quote

I disagree - and I would like to see your source regarding non-wed fathers still present in their child's home. I doubt their presence is statistically significant over the long-term. Who's last name does the little tyke get? What type of home does he/she get to live in with mommy and daddy's non-wed diminished financial clout? One need not be religious to see the value of a moderately conservative societal structure. Any statistics on the % of male inmates who grew up with single mom? Quote
pink Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 ahhh....another insight into pink's bitter and lonely existence. Â not lonely, but do enjoy hanging out with myself. the more people i bring into my life the more drama i have in my life. Quote
minx Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 FW- i think the more relevant stat would be what % of prison inmates had fathers involved in their lives not if they were raised by a single mom. the statistic wouls bear your point but i don't think it's as clear cut as that question alone. Â i wish i knew where those stats are. i'm sure that % is relatively small at this point but i suspect you'll see the number increase as part of growing trend. my point being that unwed doesn't mean absentee parents. i'm pro-family but i don't see why the hang up with marriage. Fairweather Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 For starters: "Married filing jointly" saves you a shitload of money. Quote
minx Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 there'd be no good reason to marry the likes of you. Â yes lonliness would be a totally lame reason to get married. that wasn't the implication. Quote
Fairweather Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 A joke, hence, the smirking icon. Your original comment, "we didn't need them [men] anyway", could likewise be humorlessly interpreted as relegating men to spermbank/sugardaddy status. Quote
