snoboy Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I don't think I have ever gotten up this early for Christmas, even when I was a kid! The weather was calling for 12-20cm on Sunday night, and we knew we would be up at 4:45 for avalanche control. I decided that a little pictorial would be a good (if a bit late) Christmas stoke gift for you all. clicks on the pics will get you bigger goodness. Unwrapping one of my first gifts 10cm in town, and 15cm up top - Riding the chair in the dark, through the tail end of the storm. Look real closely, the downhill chair is just visible - This pic is pretty bad, but it captures the feeling pretty well IMO, kind of fuzzy and blurred. We are building the bombs here before we head out on the contol routes. - Tieing one on. We use various tricks to get the bombs right where we want them. Here I am tieing one on to a rope to hang it out over a nice little gulley. The air blast is more effective that simply hucking it into the snow. It also keeps it from sliding down to the bottom in hard slab conditions. 2kg of dynamite, and I haven't even had a coffee yet... - Here my route partner, Andrew gets ready to light the fuse and toss the bomb. - Putting big holes in the middle of runs is our speciality - First public chair crests the rollover at the top of the mountain! - Early bird gets the worm. - Afternoon, and I hook up with some friends to clean up the last of the goods on the hill. - The last few chairs coming to the top as the day draws to an end. - Beaver's little brother waits for sweep to start. - Tired and hungry, time to go home and eat turkey...
