AlpineMonkey Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 No pictures, but stuff is trying to come in. Sad Ce'bu is not even close to being in, but we were able to climb Ice Dreams. The first time I have seen that particular climb being in, its a good route. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Mmmm.....How's the approach? Is the road still fairly drivable without major 4x4'n? Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 We walked the entire road because of our car, but you can drive all the way up there right now with a 4x4. We spent 4 hours getting there and busted in a beautiful trail with snowshoes so it would be much quicker now. If you were not comfortable with that little flow in quincy though, I wouldn't advise going up there for this one. It was the only climb in and it was scarry plus hard. (Though I can't say I have ever done an ice route that I wasen't scared on.) Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Yeah, I just need to get my head straight. Ground falls tend to mess that whole thing up a little. Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted December 4, 2006 Author Posted December 4, 2006 Its all good, everyone has head moments. Its part of climbing. Good to see you guys the other day, I wish we came up and talked to you. Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 So those other flows down the valley weren't quite in yet? If it wasn't in then it wouldn't be now, as it's warmed up a bit. Quote
Alex Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 They'll be in soon. Except for Sad Cebu, Strobach climbs dont typically come in until around mid-Dec. With this much snow and precip, I can't wait to get up there! Quote
sws Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 What approach did you take and what kind of shape was it in ie how far can one drive the road? Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted December 23, 2006 Author Posted December 23, 2006 (edited) After trying an unclimbed line and almost having a few tons of ice come falling down ontop of me and my belayer, when the entire pillar fractured, we had a sudden change of plans and went and climbed the route (Sudden Change of Plans). I'm not going to post pictures, but everthing is in now and supper fat. All the ice seems thincker then the pictures in the book. Dropline can be climbed if your a hard ass, as well as many of the other unclimbed lines. Edited December 23, 2006 by AlpineMonkey Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted December 27, 2006 Author Posted December 27, 2006 I've got several pm's asking about the approach. We drove to the base of FS 1202 and then walked the entire road. The road was groomed, I assume for xc skiers. We then bushwaked to the base of the cliffs. Our trail would have been covered up by the recent snow. Quote
Alex Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 (edited) The road gets groomed for snowmobilers, actually. Anyway, good news Craig, good news! Pics? Edited December 28, 2006 by Alex Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted December 28, 2006 Author Posted December 28, 2006 Here are some pics from the 22nd. Showing the fatness, all the named climbs are in, many of the unclimbed lines are also in: Climbing Sudden Change of Plan. We also climbed Ice Dreams. Quote
jshamster Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 So I don't have the WA Ice book (will pick up soon), and am wondering where Strobach is located. Even a point to where FS1202 is would be great. cheers. Jimbo Quote
Dannible Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Do you think that a 4x4 could still drive up there? Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 No way, snow mo's are about the only access unless you are willing to ski in. Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted January 3, 2007 Author Posted January 3, 2007 We snowshoe in everytime. Get off your and get some exercise. Quote
chris Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 What's the time plan for a snowshoe approach? Are skis possible? Quote
Alex Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 skis are better than snowshoes, as about half the distance back is a downhill run. Quote
