Arizona- Phoenix area

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of places to climb in the Phoenix area. I would be happy to drive a few hours for a good day of climbing. I've read about Mr. Lemmon (Tucson) and Promised Land (Prescott). . . any good info or recommendations would be wonderful. Thanks!

Go try Granite Mountain near Prescott- multipitch granite with old school ratings and normally closed in the Spring. It will get cool soon however because it's near 7000 feet.

I was down there for a wedding and climbed at Mt. Lea mon. May be tough to get to as they do get snow up there, but good sport climbing right off the road. There is a guidebook for the area and a free handout if you go to some outdoor store down there, but can't remember the name. Call one of the local gear shops.

a second recommendation for granite mt.

 

also worth the time is grandfather hobgoblin and other routes in that area (rock ain't perfect), weaver's needle (easy solo or very light rack), and a 3-4 pitch wall accessed from the same parking as for weaver's (can't recall the name but the rock was fine and ratings were honest).

 

sedona has some fine routes if you can stand the "ambiance".

Mt Lemmon is much more approachable than Granite Mtn. More like J Tree in terms of roadside routes and time spent climbing vs. hiking....if I only had ONE day, I'd go to Lemmon...

 

What about Paradise Forks?

I would put in a vote for Queen's Creek. An hour away from Phoenix, nobody there, free camping, lots of rock, good bouldering. Also second the nod towards the granite just to the north (McDowell Mountains?)
