rockrat16 Posted May 10, 2001 Posted May 10, 2001 Hey all! I'm looking for any recent info on Hood. I'm planning on doing a west side route this weekend. Has anyone been on any route recently? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Quote
none_dup1 Posted May 10, 2001 Posted May 10, 2001 Dude: There's a good chance they'll be snow on the route. Take skis. Quote
To_The_Top Posted May 10, 2001 Posted May 10, 2001 I went there last weekend, and the west route had a 4mile hike in snow on the road to Climbers bivouc, then Monitor ridge, which several people did. Worm flows (we did) had many people on it, and 2 parties were on the ridge east of Worm flows. Check (www.fs.fed.us.?gpnf/mshnvm/climbing) for conditions (sorry I don't know how to attach the website here). Mr Goodtime is right, the best way out is on skis. Quote
To_The_Top Posted May 10, 2001 Posted May 10, 2001 Sorry, I meant (www.fs.fed.us./gpnf/mshnvm/climbing) Quote
erik Posted May 10, 2001 Posted May 10, 2001 hmm, sounds like mt hood and mt st helens have switched locations. i remember side routes on hood being sandy headwall, leuthold and yocum ridge. maybe things have changed since i was last up there. but do bring skis and becareful of the glaciers. low snow fall! airmoss Posted May 10, 2001 Posted May 10, 2001 Check out http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mthood/climb_up.htm for current climbing conditions on Hood. There is a climbers trail groomed to about 8000' so if you get an alpine start, I don't see a need for skis. From everything I have heard so far conditions should be sweet this weekend. I plan on being at the base of the Leuthold about 5am on Monday. -Be Safe Quote
