G-spotter Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 There is a sign on da bridge over the Chilliwack River to get to Nesakwatch Creek road saying it will be closed Aug 21-25 while it is removed and replaced. Might make it tricky to get to EITHER Slesse or Rexford during those times. Also the pocket glacier is still there and dropping chunks although enough of it has gone it looks like you can get to the Bypass without needing tools or crampons. Quote
jordop Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Can't you come in from the other bridge over the river, further east? Does that still exist? Quote
G-spotter Posted August 24, 2006 Author Posted August 24, 2006 Actually it turns out that somebody from my company is the environmental monitor for this bridge replacement. If I was on the ball I could have gotten that job and I'd be out in Nesakwatch Creek all week instead of in teh office spraying. They are replacing the bridge so that they can haul out, so expect the road to suddenly be 2wd all the way to Rexford trail soon. Quote
jordop Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Driving by today, it looks as if they've got a bit of work left to do - just starting on new pilings in the river. Maybe it might not be up and running by the weekend Slesse bound travelers be ready with an alternate plan. Quote
bigeo Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Was planning on doing the NE Buttress on Sept 9/10, so any updates would be appreciated Quote

G-spotter Posted August 30, 2006 Author Posted August 30, 2006 I spoke with somebody today who knew something. The bridge was closed last weekend because the welder didn't arrive until Monday. Welding started on Monday and should be done by now. The job has to be done by Thursday for fisheries reasons. So the new bridge should be good to go by Friday Sept. 2. Quote
michaeljosephnozel Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Thanks for the update! Just out of curiosity, you don't happen to share a desk with Dru, do you? Quote
jordop Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Just out of curiosity, you don't happen to share a desk with Dru, do you? Let's put it this way: Dru on the left, G-Spotter on the right Quote
G-spotter Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 On the other hand supposedly somebody at MoF said the bridge wouldn't be open until mid-September. Who the fuck knows. Quote
michaeljosephnozel Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 G, anyway to ascertain whether that bridge will be open by tomorrow, or any suggestions on whom to contact? (Need the information rather urgently; any help is appreciated). Quote
roboboy Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Dru, is there likely to still be any water sources on the south side approaches of either slesse or rexford by now ? Quote
michaeljosephnozel Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 For those of you interested in such matters, the bridge is open. Jaime and I made a quick detour on our return trip last night, to see the progress, and were rather surprised to find it open and passable. Only speculation, but my guess is that the work was completed Friday. Perhaps Dru-spotter can enlighten us on the actual date of completion . . . . Quote
bigeo Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Thanks for the update. Anyone interested in arranging a shuttle for next weekend? Quote
G-spotter Posted September 5, 2006 Author Posted September 5, 2006 Now that the bridge is fixed expect 2wd road conditions to just past Rexford trailhead shortly and then active hauling through November or December probably as there are 5 new cutblocks laid out and ready to go. Quote
jmace Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted Aug 30th gonna rain Chilliwack Weather Forecast 12 days in advance..not bad although I hope I am wrong Quote
Ponzini Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 No 2wd just yet, still easy 4x4-ing to old Slesse parking and moderate 4x4-ing up Gate Hill to the new Slesse trail and the Rexford trail. The bypass glacier is still there but is small, looks easy to go around the high side of it. Quote
