johnny_utah Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I am looking to probably climb the south ridge standard route on the North Sister and possible throw in the middle sister from the saddle next week. Im wondering if anyone has been up there lately and what the conditions were. Quote

fheimerd Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Was up at middle sister a few weeks ago. Good snow coverage to 6500 ft. The north side from the col looked like a walk up. North also had alot of snow but I wasn't up there so I don;t know the conditions. A couple of warms days next week should melt everything together though. Quote
jlag Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 Just got off Middle yesterday. N. ridge is mellow, I'd bring an ice axe though. The W. side traverse on North looks a bit patchy, but mostly snow. The S. ridge is melted out so expect a scree wallow. Quote
johnny_utah Posted June 10, 2006 Author Posted June 10, 2006 What area did you come in from? A trailhead off Cascade Lakes? I was planning on taking the obsidian, but just found out 242 isn't open. I was wondering if maybe the road is open from Sisters up to the PCT. Let me know because conditions sound good. I just dont know how hard it will be to get to a trailhead from the north. Thank you. wannabe Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Was up on M Sister N ridge today via Pole Creek. Got out before the thunderstorms unloaded. On snow most of the way except for a few scree sections above the col. Nice crust in the early a.m., slush by noon. Â One snow section above the col was steeper than the rest. These guys felt the need to belay up it: Â Monkey enjoyed the summit view: Quote
Strider13 Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Hi, I'm considering the N Ridge route on the M Sister, via Hayden. What is the best place for a camp on the M Sister N ridge approach this time of year? When it is the best time to leave for the summit? Â Thanks in advance! Strider Quote
jaee Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Here's a direct route from the Pole Creek trailhead. There are plenty of flat areas and water around this area. Â This isn't an exact point I've camped, but an approximation of the general area with pretty direct approach from the trail shown. Â Â Basically head for M. Sister from the trail one drainage before Soap Creek and follow the climbers trail up to timberline. Quote
jfs1978 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 What's a typical there and back time for Middle Sister from Pole Creek via Hayden and North Ridge? Quote
jaee Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 If you're going to bivy or camp, 18-24 hrs. If you're going in light without stopping and moving fairly quickly, 8-10 Quote
jfs1978 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 thanks much - planning on going light and (hopefully) fast. Quote
