Dave_Schuldt Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 (edited) nstead of watching the Stupid Bowl Wolffie, MarkL and I did a great XC tour yesterday. Tronson Ridge is east of Swauk Pass on HWY. 97 between Cle Elum and Leavenworth. We started in the Snow Park at the pass, this is usually a snomo ghetto but because of the game there was only a few. We headed up the trail, crossed the snowmo road as Wolffie with his skins left us in the dust. The trail is marked with blazes and ski tracks. After an hour or so MarkL and I stopped to put on softer wax. Special red worked great and that was the only wax stop. We got to the top of the ridge, ate lunch, took in the view and enjoyed the silence. Altho this was a place only skiers can go you can still hear the snowmos. We then went around a knob using a compass and memory. We somehow managed to get off route into a steep gully. We climbed out of the gully and hit the ridge top for more views and a break. Now it was time for the downhill. There are some great runs for XC skis but the a variety of shity snow conditions made turn almost impossible. The wind from Saturday meant that any open areas were packed down and the sun softened it only to leave a nice breakable crust when it went into the shade. The best snow was in the woods where the powder made for some great kick and glide. The slopes are fairly gentle going over benches down to the skier road. There was a nice fast track set into the road. Mark and I waited around at the car and were wondering what happened to Wolffie when we saw him walking up the road. He had miss a turn and hit the HWY. just north of the pass at a skier only parking area. We left about 4:30 and got home just before the game ended. Almost no traffic, perfect timing. Weekend_Climberz Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Sweet dude! I'm working on a bit of a trip report for Yodelin on Saturday. We had an awesome time despite the rather blustery winds. Quote
magellan Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 What is the very pointy peak in the middle of this picture? How about that big one on the right? Quote
mattp Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 (edited) Might that be Glacier Peak, rising in the distance behind the Ten Peak/Mt Clark area peaks? [edit - the picture of Stu didn't load for me the first time I viewed this thread. I was talking about the top photo.] Edited February 7, 2006 by mattp Quote
slaphappy Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Thought I recognized your face from here, wasn't sure though. I was one of the PBR swilling snomo-boarders listening to lousy new age punk rock at the snopark in the AM. We had an awesome day on the short albeit steep N facing flanks of Table. Quote
