kurthicks Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 These look pretty cool. no fussing with unclipping, just lift your hands off. it seems like it would be great for those just getting into leashless climbing. too bad they're only designed for Camp Awax tools (which are pretty sweet IMO). "The Awax freestyle uses a special leash with a steel ring that rests in one of two hooks mounted to back of the shaft. The leash remains on the user's hand at all times while the semi-leashless functionality allows the user to manipulate placements for aggressive moves and establish a larger variety of resting positions." http://www.camp-usa.com/module/product/detail.asp?ID=71 Quote
Dru Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Bogen had a similar setup from Simond last winter, and what can i say, it froze up, spontaneously came undone, and generally sucked. The Android system works way better. Want to go leashless? Just don't clip your Android to the tool. Quote
wdietsch Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Check out the "Hand Clips" under "Online Shop" and "Leashes" e-climb and the tools while your at it Quote
sketchfest Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 kinda cool, I can't figure out how you attach the clip to your glove though?? I'll bet you could retro those onto other tools by drilling into the back of the shaft and inserting a nut-zert or maybe even a heli-coil. Quote
wdietsch Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 play thru the little demo ... it does not attach to the glove. It a "wrist strap" kind of thing Quote
sketchfest Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Ooooooh, I wasn't getting all the flash, it just kept showing the same picture over and over and over and over Quote
Mark_Husbands Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 check out those removable-tip ice screws. the coffee grinder that pivots on a different axis than the threads makes sense. Quote
JoshK Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Eh...seems less than useful. If I am going to be wearing a leash I actually want the security of being protected from my own stupid self dropping a tool. You can certainly still drop a tool with this setup. I'll stick with the androids, which are pretty damn easy to clip - IMHO. In fact, I think if my sorry ass can clip androids then anybody who can't should maybe find a sport other than ice climbing. DanielHarro Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I had a pair of the Awax toolz and was not a huge fan of the leash system. I found that it would pop out of the hooks while I was not weighting the tool, not quite ideal in some situations. The Awax toolz are nice, but they dont have enough head weight and the grips ar sub-par. Quote
