olyclimber Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Has anyone used one of these? Is it a waste of money/novelty? I did a search here, but all I found was put downs by Dru. Quote
Dru Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Try them out and you will notice t3h suck. Also Petzl laserSonic screws that you ar supposed to use them with, are not cheap. The new ones with the bolt hangers, don't work with the Turbine either. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 what the hell is that and how many does nolse have Quote
olyclimber Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 it is detachable crank handle for cranking in certain Petzl ice screws. I have a few of these type of screws, and noticed it on the product documentation. Quote

Cobra_Commander Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 you'd have to have a screw loose to think you need that Quote

Dru Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I thought the old Lasers were Sonic too? Anyway, you will notice, the new ones (your first pic) with the swivelly clip/crank bolt, don't have two holes and hence don't work with the Turbine. Quote
olyclimber Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 I think the product documentation must be for both of them, because I got the newer type (laser sonics) with the swiveling clip, yet the product documentation listed the turbine as an accessory and had a diagram with it in use. I'll have to look at it again when I get home. The website list laser, and then laser sonics...yet it has the turbine as an "associated product" only for the laser, and not the laser sonic. Quote
Dru Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Think of the mechanics of attaching a swivelling crank to a swivelling crank and then attempting to turn it. Quote
rhyang Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I've used some of the newer petzl's (laser sonic) with the swiveling clip hanger. They worked fine. The turbine thingy just seems like something else to drop. Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I bought some of the new sonics at EMS on sale a few months back. Placed some yesterday and thought that they are a little more awkward to place than BD, but clean much easier. Overall they seem like really nice screws. Doesnt seem like the turbine would serve any purpose with them. Quote

Cobra_Commander Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Silence heathen. Boring is a bustling metropolis of art and culture. Not that the lair is or is in (b/B)oring. Quote
John Frieh Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I'm willing to bet the lair is in Beaverton or one of the other suburbia wastelands of strip malls and mini vans that surround PDX. If the lair was actually in PDX the commander would have better things to do than sit on the internet all day and talk smack. In fact... I bet commander is a stay at home dad Ms Cobra Commander must wear the pants, or in this case the mask, of the relationship Hey Cobra! What's for dinner? Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Hey Cobra! What's for dinner? yer mom. My ladies work hard for my money in the Cobra Escorts front operation. Like catbirdseat said, it's all about the money, hoes and clothes. Quote
John Frieh Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Escorts? Scratch my original guess... Lair must be in NE PDX. Hope to see you at dt night Quote

Dr_Crash Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I don't see why you'd want that with the Laser Sonics. They place really well. As was posted, it's a bit tougher than the BD with the folding handle, but not that much worse once you figure out a way to grab the swivelling hanger. And I love the fact that you can clean them while still attached to the rope. drC Quote
