Peter_Puget Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 So in my 3.245*10^8 day of work in a row the network crashes - well at least part of it. So I thougth I'd spray about two groovy discs: 1) Soft Machine 1967-71 Live BBC Radio 2) Nellie McKay Get Away From Me Both are pretty darn groovy. Quote
deadbeatchrist Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 I would like to promote a disc also. Dungen - Ta Det Lugnt It's Swedish. It's good. Quote
Dechristo Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 spray about... (a) ...groovy disc: 1) Soft Machine 1967-71 Live BBC Radio ...pretty darn groovy. Dat wut. I enjoy a couple of Soft Machine albums on vinyl from that period. Quote
nonanon Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 (edited) McKay could be her generation's Randy Newman. Only maybe a bit more funny and way better looking. edit to add Live tracks Edited October 31, 2005 by nonanon Quote
ChrisT Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 thanks for the link nonanon. full-length cuts, not just snippets...nice. But I think she's more along the lines of Madeline Peyroux and only 19! wow! Quote
Peter_Puget Posted October 31, 2005 Author Posted October 31, 2005 But I think she's more along the lines of Madeline Peyroux Don't see that. I wonder how much of her first album is really her work. If a good portion of it is, she has a lot of talent. She has to decide if she wants to be a jokster or a real talent. Time will tell. Next year she will be performing on (off?) broadway in a musical. Eh a bad sign...... Quote
nonanon Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Right. Peyroux is more like a Leanne Rimes or Joss Stone, in that they're all "channeling" other singers. McKay, otoh, can write songs! The other thing about her that reminds me of Newman is that, imo, most of her material sounds better live than on the record. Quote
seawallrunner Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 One of the former members of Soft Machine, Karl Jenkins, wrote the famous 'Diamonds' jingle for deBeers. Quote
Peter_Puget Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 OK the network just crashed again So I thought I'd spray about one of the greatest albums ever: The Modern Dance Pere Ubu I even think these lads played in P Square the year after this came out. Quote
