espirita Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 Free solo no less. Wonder if it is carrying the 10 essentials? Can it clip bolts or place bolts on ascent? Sorry, that link was just to the zoomed picture. Here's the full story: http://dsc.discovery.com/news/briefs/20050919/lemurbot.html Kennedy is considering replacing the peg-like tips with drill bits that would allow the robot to drill its own holds into a rocky precipice and at the same retrieve a core sample. Someone will be all up in arms about this, I'm sure! Quote
Dru Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 This robot was in Climbing Mag like 2 years ago... But - if they can use gecko Tape for the limbs, think of the possibilities. Or give it a cable spool so it can build a Via ferrata. Is it "bolted on the lead" if you get a robot to place the bolts before you lead it? What is the robot's 8a.nu score? Quote
espirita Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 This robot was in Climbing Mag like 2 years ago... This is the new improved one! That job may one day go to NASA's Lemur IIb, an evolved version of a crawling robot named Lemur. Or, excuse me, the evolved one. The first one probably only had one limb. Quote
Dru Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Looks like exactly the same photo to me. Quote

Dru Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I'm gonna buy a Chinese knockoff and use it at Smiff Tuft Love Fest to put the draws up on my project for me. Quote
