What a great guy. Go figure he'd be holding out on us for a few of his hidden climbs. You'll be climbing some FA somewhere someday and find an old Becky piton on your "unclimbed" route. He was always there first

Not bad except that he owns a house. I represented him in the purchase. I called Ken (the author of the article) and he politely agreed to print a correction, which should be in the next issue. Fred has slept on many hundreds of couches, but he has been a member of the "landed gentry" for two years now (and was so once before as well).

Cheers,

I wonder who will write his biography and when....Krakauer seems like a candidate... best & most detailed story I ever noticed about him was by the NYT Seattle correspondent....possibly there are dark-horse types out there...slightly surprised nobody's done it already... but I wonder about access to his papers/notes...Given his reputation for cussedness he's probably blocking it as best he can...& it seems we'll have to wait until he passeth....

A year or more ago I heard about a documentary which was being made on Fred, with interviews with old partners, Helmy, etc.

Anyone know updates on this? It was going to be at Telluride Film Fest, but as far as I know, it was never finished . . . .

I work with Outdoors NW Magazine, We made the correction in our September Issue. Things happen that slip through the cracks, such is the editorial life. We should be having a short feature with Yvon Chouinard in the coming months as well. Keep your eye peeled for that!
