Dechristo Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 My tv antenna was destroyed by multiple heavy snowfalls last Winter; I haven't used the boobtube for anything but dvd and vhs viewing since. Closest tv station is 80 air-miles. Any of the techno-wise have recommendations? I'd prefer not to get into a satellite-dish habit. Quote
mec Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 an old wire coat hanger always seems to work. plus its a lot cheaper than most of the alternatives... Quote
Dechristo Posted August 29, 2005 Author Posted August 29, 2005 That might work if the coat hanger is within spitting-distance of the tv station. Quote
mec Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 my parents (who also live in the boondocks) bought a generic one from radio shack a dozen years ago and it seems to work well. it is one of those square, vertical oriented ones. i'm not quite sure brand, or specs or any of that, but it got the job done. a couple stations come in really clear, and the rest are decent. Dechristo Posted August 29, 2005 Author Posted August 29, 2005 Yeah, that's the kind that got destoyed by repeated heavy snowfall. I'm hoping there's something out there that doesn't look like there should be a basket of clothes-pins hangin' from it. Quote
Mal_Con Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Basic rule of antennas is the bigger they are the more signal they catch, so long as properly designed. Quote
Dechristo Posted August 29, 2005 Author Posted August 29, 2005 Any recommends on signal amplification? Quote

Dru Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 You can catch more signals with honey than with vinegar. Or something like that.... Quote
Dechristo Posted August 29, 2005 Author Posted August 29, 2005 Speak softly and carry a big stick? Quote
olyclimber Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 It might just be easier to move closer to the TV broadcasting facility. Quote
archenemy Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Or go to your neighbor's house and watch that TV. Quote
Dechristo Posted August 29, 2005 Author Posted August 29, 2005 Is that faux fur? It can't be fo reception. Quote
jmace Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 why not attach it to a regular cable wire and run it to your roof that should be long enough? you may have to choose cable when setting your tv options, worked for me. Quote
