Winter Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 There's a huge for sale - sale pending sign on the front of Climb Max. What gives? Are they moving or closing? Quote
Camilo Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I was there last weekend. They said that they'll be moving somewhere nearby and were looking for the right place. Definitely not closing though. Quote
kioti Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I saw the sign the other day too, I tried to pop in but the door was locked during regular business hours, The people inside just looked at me... Quote
neswstar Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 One of their employees called me this morning on a follow up order and I asked about the sign. Seems they are looking to expand their space due to increase in their mail order business and mad rock distribution. (Pagan Gear) http://www.pagangear.com/ Â I would hate to lose these guys - they are hands down my favorite climb store in Portland. Just wish they might do a better job of communicating ( closed for 2 weekend day nights this spring, big sale, no smith rock climb fair, big for lease sign). where is the "we're expanding" sign? Â BTW, great new employees, very friendly and knowledgeable. But, I'll miss Darren (Mr techno gear freak who always knows what I need to buy next - hope mad rock loves you). Quote
Ursa_Eagle Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I asked about this when I was in recently. The owner of the building is selling, and they've included a sale agreement that Climb Max gets a year after the sale to find a new home. They say they're trying to stay in the area (within 10 blocks or so), but we'll see what happens. Quote
Couloir Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 - they are hands down my favorite climb store in Portland. Quote
nonanon Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 I am not gonna miss that ugly razor wire one bit. Quote
Climb_Max_Mountaineering Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Hey guys! Â My name's Gavin, I'm co-managing Climb Max Mountaineering these days. One of our regulars stopped in today and informed us about this thread (thanks!), so I just wanted to stop by and say 'hey' and let you guys know exactly what's going on. neswstar's got it pretty much right. The building's on the market, but hasn't QUITE sold just yet so we don't have a when or where yet. As soon as we do though, I'll be putting up flyers at the local gyms, on here, and inform the local organizations. We're going to try to stay as close in the area as possible. Stay tuned! Â >>Just wish they might do a better job of communicating ( closed for 2 weekend day nights this spring, big sale, no smith rock climb fair, big for lease sign). where is the "we're expanding" sign? Â I'll do my best! Â That said, we've recently had some unfortunate restructuring in our staff which forces us to close two days a week again. Sorry! So we'll be closed Tuesday and Wednesday again for an indeterminate period of time. Â Thanks for all the concern. It makes us feel loved. billcoe Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Thanks Gavin, co-incidentally, thats the name of the guy who does the US outdoor store too! Â Appreciate the heads up, hey: is it true that CC.Com users get 10% off like PRG members? Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Thanks for posting this, Gavin. Â Let us know when your staffing situation gets worked out. I was planning on heading down there tomorrow night, and would have been disappointed to find your doors closed. Quote
sweatinoutliquor Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Sniff sniff... I was going to come up from Corvallis this afternoon. Probably for the best that I wait though... Funds running low, and I never can walk out of those door with any money left. Quote
Couloir Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Gavin, you're great guy. Your knowledge and help has been invaluable over the years. Thanks! Quote
Climb_Max_Mountaineering Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Thanks for the kind words. Â So we now have an update for you! Â Everything's been settled, the building's sold, and we have a schedule! So first things first, everyone loves a sale so I'll post this here as well as make a separate post. Hopefully I'm allowed to do this here and I won't get banned for it! Â Our sale officially kicked off on Monday (10/17) with everything 20% off except sale items or special orders. Â 10/24 sees the discount rise to 25%! 10/31 the discount hits 30%! And finally on 11/7, you get 35% off! Â So there it is. Come get it! Inventory may not stick around long, so keep checking back, don't wait until the last week to get that killer discount when we (hopefully) don't have anything left. Â On to the move... Â There may be some talk of it already and I meant to do this earlier in the week, but busy busy. We're officially moving to 612 NE Broadway right next to the Mountain Shop! The store will go into the old Castle Snowboards building. Â What's this you say? You're moving in next to competition?! Yes, yes, its no jest. We've actually worked it out with the Mountain Shop that we will both remain our own separate entities, but enter into a partnership of friendly referrals. What this means is we are moving out of many of the non-climbing specific categories while they are moving out of many of the climbing specific categories. We're both targetting the market we specialize in so this should increase the efficacy of each shop as an individual while the walkway between shops makes it feel like one. Â So there you have it. The madness of my world. What does this mean for you guys? Better parking, better service, better specialization, and a central location with food and gear abound! Is there anything more to life? Â The last day that the shop on Division will be open is Sunday, November 13th. We close our doors at 6pm and will reopen them at the next location on Broadway on Friday November 18th. For a while, we'll have the same hours as the Mountain Shop as well. Monday - Wednesday 11-7, Thursday and Friday 10-9, Saturday 10-6, Sunday 12-5. Â Please feel free to ask any questions or tack on anything I've forgotten to mention. Thanks for all the support! Â Gavin Climb Max Mountaineering 503.797.1991 manager@climbaxe.com Quote
Camilo Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 That's really cool to see two great shops coming to what seems like a great agreement Quote
b-rock Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Oh that's just what I need, Climb Max moving to spittin' distance from my house... That will be a cool arrangement between you and Mtn Shop. Thanks for posting. Quote
Couloir Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Seems like a smart business move and a great way to service your customers. That's great news. Thank you! Quote
billcoe Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 That's F*en A awesome all the way around Gavin. Thank you for sharing that with us, as 1 of many gear whores on this site I can assue you that we appreciate it.  FYI - I put a copy here as well: Rockclimbing.com Used Gear/Great Deals  BTW, I stopped going to the Mountain Shop and refused to buy anything from them when they stopped allowing Bergfreunde to have the ski swap in the basement. That's anything .  The US Outdoor store has been more than happy to get it all, (that Gavin did a couple of favors for a friend) including buying my skiis (3 new pairs last 2 years) both kids snowboards (boy got a Burton custom this year, daughter moved to hawaii for college and gets nothing as her pleas for Pops to get her a surfboard have been ignored). Deeke and Bryan get some of it as well, they have cheap but awesome gloves, helmets and stuff.  They might re-consider that policy. Quote
