verticalturtle Posted August 17, 2001 Posted August 17, 2001 Just a Quuick Question as it is the only formation at thepass I have not yet done; can you get off of SEWS with 1 rope? vt Quote
erik Posted August 17, 2001 Posted August 17, 2001 you can down climb most of the s arete and then make 2 short raps, so yes you can get off with one rope. and technically you can down climb the whole thing, there are like 2 moves of 5.4-5.6. not too bad. have fun Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted August 17, 2001 Posted August 17, 2001 Erik be right. The route is the descent.. Quote
verticalturtle Posted August 17, 2001 Author Posted August 17, 2001 Thanks and actually I was considering doing the direct E butt solo (roped) Anything to watch for on this route doing it this method? vt Quote
mattp Posted August 20, 2001 Posted August 20, 2001 Watch for climbers, some of whom may feel that you are in their way. Quote
Alex Posted August 20, 2001 Posted August 20, 2001 VerticalTurtle, You can solo the first 2 pitches. Easy class 5, a little friable. There is alot of rope drag on pitch 4, thats probably going to require long slings. Its a shorter 5.7 pitch but winds a little first left then up and right. From the ledge at the top of 4, the bolt ladder to the corner of the arete and next belay doesnt have too much drag, and thereafter there are no rope drag issues. A stick clip might be nice if you plan to solo the route. Alex Quote
