EWolfe
There is something going on in British Columbia that the government has frozen media reporting of. I heard some DJ's hinting around it today. Any ideas what happened? Dru?
Dr_Flash_Amazing
Probably it's raining squid or something, or the Pope is up there hanging out at a hash bar. Could go either way.
Bogen
Flags are at half mast, I don't think they were yesterday.
Dru
Not in BC. There's a federal trial with a publication ban in place regarding certain evidence, that some conservative US bloggers decided to violate... you can Google it and get all the banned testimony if you want to
Bogen
So the flags are popish, or what?
Dru
I don't see any flags down.
Bogen
Courthouse in here in PoCo, half an hour ago. Maybe they are more catholic?? Mourning the passing of affordable gasoline?
Dru
Maybe they were Prince Rainier or Saul Bellow fans
snoboy
Flags are prolly (hi Dwayner ) for da Pope. There is a federal commission investigating government scandal... blah blah blah... dru has it right.
Ireneo_Funes
I don't know...sounds like they've imposed martial law to me. Do they have jackbooted thugs and black helicopters in Canada? You all might want to check on your assault rifle stockpiles.
JoshK
Unless there is some agreement, nobody "violated" anything. U.S. citizens don't have to respect a Canadian ban on something.
Dru
That might be the case if it was newsworthy for Americans, but when the only reason they decided to blog the info was because it was banned, "violate" seems the most appropriate verb. snoboy
And who is to say that the bloggers are all Yanks? Hmmm?
Dr_Flash_Amazing
Not to mention who gives a flying fuck about Drunadia's lousy maple-leafing media bans? Wahhhh.
JoshK
And who is to say that the bloggers are all Yanks? Hmmm? He said conservative U.S. dudes, so that is what I assume. I would agree with dru's point hwoever...if they just posted it because it was banned then that is pretty pointless.
slothrop
Why a publication ban? Is this a jury trial and there's no way to sequester the jurors?
stinkyclimber
Nope. It is a public inquiry into the possible misuse of public funds. The ban is in place for the testimony of an advertising exec who has also been criminally charged and whose trial starts in a week or so. The thought was that if his testimony was published, then the juror pool would be tainted. The ban is a good idea (IMO), and since the evidence will eventually be made public as part of the inqury's report, it isn't surpressing anything, but in an internet age, it is a ban in theory only. You can read all about it at Captain's Quarters
Thinker
Oh, I thought maybe those rowdy Squamish teens had just murdered another lawyer, assaulted more campers in the city park, or started their car clouting season early.
