DPS Posted November 14, 2002 Author Posted November 14, 2002 I will be spending a week in Scottsdale, Az. Can someone tell me if there is any bouldering nearby? I've heard they have some kind of a bouldering contest near Phoenix that a few people show up to some years. Quote
Dru Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Queen Creek, ~70 miles east of Phoenix, has rad tuff bouldering. There is granite up by Scottsdale-Prescott area too. I suggest you check out www.rockandroad.com if its working or go into a climbing store when you are down there. Quote
freeclimb9 Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 The PBC is held up in Queen creek near the village of Superior. That's not exactly close to Scottsdale. There's stuff a lot closer. Pinnacle Peak, which is on the edge of Scottsdale has some decent granite. There's a funky bar and grill nearby, too (at least there was in 1989). Mank sandstone can also be found in the middle of Phoenix ("Camel Mtn", or something like that). Quote
Sargent_Rock Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 check out: http://www.arizonabouldering.com Also look up Queen Creek. Say hello to the gang from North Central Washington if you see them there. Quote
offwidthclimber Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 camelback mtn is right in the middle of phx. it's generally referred to as petrified mud, but there's some good bouldering near the trailhead, especially if you're short of time. south mountain, just south of phx/tempe apparently has a ton of rock. i never bouldered there. queen creek, as everyone mentioned, has tons of rock. i've bouldered a couple different areas there. tuff rock - prepare for shredded tips. there's bouldering near prescott and up at flagstaff too. the arizonabouldering link Sargent Rock posted is a great resource and there's some more photo/info at http://www.azclimbing.com/ too. have fun!
