delicateflower Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Hey all, I'll be in Salzburg / Vienna for the first two weeks of January. I'll have a couple free evenings, anyone know of a climbing gym I could check out there? Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Check out DFA's Vienna Sausage Gymn Since he's always advertising here I figured I'd hook em up. [ 11-12-2002, 09:16 AM: Message edited by: Cpt.Caveman ] Quote
chris_w Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Don't remmeber or know of any climbing gyms in Salzburg. I do recommend climbing onto a chair at the Augustiner monestary for a couple liters of beer . Still tapped from a wooden barrel. http://www.xs4all.nl/~patto1ro/salzburg.htm Quote
Greg_W Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Hit Peter's Stiftskeller (sp?) in the old part of town; supposedly the oldest bar/restaurant in Europe. There's another great restaurant right down from Mozart's house where part of the restaurant is over the street; small, intimate rooms for fine dining - don't remember the name (and I won't bother asking my ex-wife!! ). As far as climbing: climb the stone walls along the river or climb the outside of the fort on the hill above old town. Quote
delicateflower Posted November 12, 2002 Author Posted November 12, 2002 thanks, it's supposed to be snowing at the time, and I'll need some exercise between the beers and bars Quote
Greg_W Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Salzburg in a snowstorm is very beautiful Quote

RobBob Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Skip climbing gyms; go ski in St Anton for a week. If the snow is good in the lower elevations already, and you like to party, go ski Saalbach/Hinterglemm for a week. Saalbach is very close to Salzburg. January is low season, and everything will be reasonably priced. Quote
delicateflower Posted November 13, 2002 Author Posted November 13, 2002 yep, will be skiing some as well, as apparently my Austrian squeeze and his clan were born with skis attached already or something like that. Sadly, I'm a much better climber than skier. Also, just wanted to get a start on finding a climbing crowd in the area in case I move there. thanks Quote
RobBob Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 You will become a much better skier after a tour in Austria! No better challenge than to get with a group better than yourself, barely speak the language, and have to push yourself to keep up. You will leave Oesterreich as a profi! Enjoy! Quote
