repeated folding in the same manner will break down the fabric along with any waterproof coating the material is treated with

eh, not that big a deal IMHO. Most waterproof coating will break down with age, like the Bishop tent my parents had did after 20 years. If your a guide service, or using it more than every weekend, you'll probably replace the tent for other reasons first.

I believe both of the instructions for the tents I have (Kelty Ledge , TNF M25) suggest rolling the tent and stuffing the fly. Or maybe I am remembering that wrong. Maybe it was, that if you stuff your fly you are more likely to get a roll in the tent. That could be it.

I would check your manual.

What method do you use to pack up your tent?

Depends on who's still in it; if it's the chica du jour, I'll either stuff or roll it.

If it's just a climbing partner, I'll fold it.

Don't know about stuffing your fly KYLE cause your partner might get disappointed when you pull it out crazy.gif. As for the tent I fold and roll my Marmot around all the extra stuff in its bag (poles, tie-downs, etc.). Keeps the poles from puncturing the tent fabric. I do stuff the fly (of the tent!) in the top of the bag as it's too difficult to roll up.
