Dru Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 "Curse of Ötzi? "The same Ötztal Alps were fatal to Helmut Simon, whose body was found trapped in ice last October just like his famous find. (!?!?) Simon's death strengthened the legend of a 'Ötzi curse', according to the German magazine Die Zeit. "Three other people who had a direct contact with the mummy died under mysterious circumstances in the past years. "The first one was Guenter Henn, the forensic pathologist who picked the mummy from the snow with naked hands. A year later, Henn died in a head-on collision while on his way to present 'sensational findings' on the mummy at a conference. "Shortly after, it was the time of Kurt Fritz, the mountain guide who dug into the ice to bring to light the mummy's face. Fritz was the only one out of a group of climbers killed in an avalanche on a slope he was very familiar with. "The third victim, who died of a brain tumor, was Rainer Hoelzl, the only journalist allowed to film the removal of the mummy from the ice for a TV documentary. "As if that wasn't enough, Dieter Warnecke, head of the rescue service who found Simon's frozen body, died of a heart attack an hour after Simon's funeral." http://dsc.discovery.com/news/briefs/20050103/oetzi.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/germany/article/0,2763,1334765,00.html Look out Reinhold Messner! For those who aren't familiar with the story, Messner was called in when the body was found on the assumption it was a recently dead climber. Messner attempted to roll the body over and only succeeded in ripping part of the dessicated body apart - Otzi's genitals remained frozen in the iceand later had to be recovered and painstakingly reattached by skilled (and trained) archeologists. If the Curse is killing minor players like this what's it gonna do to the guy who ripped his dick off??? Quote
olyclimber Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 The brighter side of this breaking news is that those who never touched Otzi or his genitals should be safe. Quote
tread_tramp Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 "If the Curse is killing minor players like this what's it gonna do to the guy who ripped his dick off???" "Yikes. That shite is freakin me out man." Tell us what you did Greta. Quote
catbirdseat Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 There were curses associated with the discovery of King Tut's tomb and with the Hope Diamond. There's also the Curse of the Bambino that was recently broken. What other famous curses can you think of? Quote
bunglehead Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Yikes! What're the odds? Is this all in the realm of random occurences? Then again, I don't really go around pulling frozen mummies out of the ice, so I think I'll be safe. Quote
