DPS Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Does anyone know roughly how many people (hikers and climbers) use the Little Si trail in peak season? Thanks Quote
gyselinck Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 In "peak season" you won't find a parking spot. Quote
klenke Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 I ran up Little Si on Saturday, December 11. In the afternoon (2PM or so) there were very few parking spots available. I imagine in summer people are parking on the road. It's actually a pretty small parking lot considering the venue and the closeness to metropolitan areas. I wouldn't be surprised if, in peak season (all year?), 150 people per day set foot on that trail. Fortunately, the first 300 yards of trail is steep and that probably thwarts the less fit among us. As for the climb, at a brisk stride, I made it to the top in about 40 minutes. It provides a better view than Big Si. A good place to take a date perhaps. Quote

klenke Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 A five-year-old can have lots of energy. Heck, he probably didn't even realize it was uphill. I've gone hiking with non-climber friends and have been surprised by some of them for their utter lack of ability to even hike up a logging road. (My previous post had a typo: probably properly was properly probably.) Quote

(My previous post had a typo: probably properly was properly probably.) Yeah, but I kind of find logging roads like walking in a mall - exhausting! I don't know how people can do it - they have to be in way better shape than me, and often they use walkers! Quote

klenke Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Why not? Didn't take that long. I've done way more vertical in a day than those two combined (~4,000 ft) so it was no big deal. And where were you? Did you ever get up to Alta, Craig? Quote

gyselinck Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 I called the ranger station (your advice) and they said that road was closed, so we went and did the South Face of the Tooth instead. (I was thinking about tagging Tenerife that day as well, but the thought of food turned me back.) I was at home eating. Quote
