Distel32 Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 is in the mail my way, will be here wednesday afternoon. report and sample images to follow over the next few days....so psyched Quote
markov Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Congratulations. That's an excellent camera. It's amazing how quickly the technology improves. Enjoy it . Quote
Distel32 Posted October 19, 2004 Author Posted October 19, 2004 total was 1680 something after the camera with the 18-70, also getting a nikon 70-300, warranty, and 2 batteries. Thats not including the couple of gig cards I bought though Quote
cracked Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 I've got camera envy whenever I see someone with a big-ass DSLR (philfort this means you ), but it's such major overkill for my purposes. Enjoy it. Quote
Distel32 Posted October 19, 2004 Author Posted October 19, 2004 thanks, I wouldn't of gotten one if I wasn't going to mongolia again. Plus hopefully will be able to get some good climbing pics. Quote
setnei Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Hey, cool! I'm actually looking at this camera quite seriously, so some additional insight/samples will be useful... Quote
cracked Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Hey, do DSLRs also have shutter lag like digital point and shoots? It's the only thing I dislike about my S50. Quote
jon Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 No, the D70 shoots 2.9 frames per second up to 40 frames depending on quality, with a shutter speed up to 1/8000. I've had this camera since it came out and it takes incredible pictures. With an SB-800 flash you can do some pretty funky stuff with it. Quote
PONCHO&LEFTY Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Hey do all you DSLR users print your photos? I hope so. What printers do you all use? Quote
philfort Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 There's no noticeable shutter lag, and the good/modern ones like the D70 turn on instantly - so they really behave just like a film SLR in terms of responsiveness. Quote
marylou Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Heh, I just went the other direction and replaced my S40 with the 5 meg ELPH. Even going that little bit smaller and lighter is going to get me to take the camera more often. Let's hear about printers. Quote
Distel32 Posted October 21, 2004 Author Posted October 21, 2004 so shooting with it this evening is great, can't wait to take it outside though. printing, don't buy a printer, just go to costco, seriously it'll be just as cheap and much better quality. 5x7 digi prints from costco are like .69 and 8x10 are 1.29 I think. Quote
PONCHO&LEFTY Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Why bother with a tricky digital camera if you are going to take prints to costco? Invest in a good printer. That way you can control your prints. Epson 2200 as good or better thatn Costco. $600 dollars though. Not real portable however. But 13x44 print capable. Quote
Distel32 Posted October 23, 2004 Author Posted October 23, 2004 so I've taken over 300 pictures thus far. I must say, it kicks ass. go buy it. I shot with the canon digi rebel in Mongolia, and the d70 is way better. werd. Quote
ChrisT Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I soooooooooo want one! *love* my N70 and FE but can't afford the D70 right now. Quote
cj001f Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Did you get high write speed flash (like Lexar Pro)? If you did, does it work as claimed? Tried a Microdrive yet? Quote
Distel32 Posted October 23, 2004 Author Posted October 23, 2004 I got the Sandisk Ultra 2, same as the lexar high speed. I have two 1GB cards. They do write very fast, but I notice it a lot more when transferring my pics to my comp and deleting them. plus I got a CF card reader so I never have to waste camera battery transferring images. but yes, the Ultra speed card is much much better than the regular. Quote
cj001f Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 but yes, the Ultra speed card is much much better than the regular. Work camera has a Lexar; doesn't support them Was curious about DSLR support. Now it's on the list Quote
