NYC007 Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 anyone know who still carries the shovel that fits on the shaft of an ice tool??? Quote
pc Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Black Diamond was the company that made the ice axe shovel. I have one and it works OK, not a very big blade. I'm pretty sure they don't produce it anymore. You might give them a ring in Salt Lake or try bdel.com Cheers Quote
John Frieh Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 They stopped making it in 2000ish... I've seen them on Ebay from time to time... nice for mtneering as you can leave the handle at home. I drilled mine so that it can also be used as a fluke. Quote
cj001f Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 It's not for a tool, but Leki makes a shovel for their Lawisond ski poles still. Quote
fenderfour Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 Stubai makes a shovel that looks a lot like the old ice axe shovels from BD. LINK I couldn't get it to link directly, so you have to click the "Products" link, then the "Avalanche Probes and Shovels" link. Scroll to the bottom of the resulting window. Quote
Nick Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Those BD shovels, the older Choinard version, and a very similar red one from Scandinavia often turn up at Second Ascent in Ballard. I use an old Choinard shovel that fits on axe shafts a lot for alpine climbs, but carry a bigger shovel for winter use or when Avalanche is a more likely possibility. Quote
Mark_Husbands Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Mammut makes one that looks a lot like that Stubai Quote
swaterfall Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 BCA shovel blades fit on most mountaineering axes. Quote
