Jarred_Jackman Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Anybody been to an area called the Dihedrals? Also, I know there has to be some climbing in the Blues, Spring mtn and such, what else is there between washington, smith, and idaho, besides farm land? thanks Quote
gapertimmy Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 i think there was a thread a while back about rock routes in the wallowa's in NE oregon near enterprise. I have a hiking guidebook for the area that has some route descriptions in it, i'll bring it to work tomorrow i haven't climbed them but beta is beta Quote
sketchfest Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 You might try sending a PM to Terminal Gravity, I hear he's up on that area. Quote
Thinker Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 there are some AWESOME limestone sprot routes in Hell's Canyon on the OR/ID border. Kevin Pogue has a good description of some of the routes, approaches, etc on his website. I'll dig around for it and post it here if I find it. (I know, I know, after razzing DFA about sporties originating from the abyss and all I'll certainly catch it for this post....but hey, I don't really discriminate against the odd bolt when I run across it......) Thinker Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Here it is..... Pogue's climbing page with link to Hells Canyon I heard climbers from Boise and La Grande were the primary route developers. Kevin or shops in one town or the other may have some topos. I was there a couple of years ago with no more than a cryptic description of how to get to one of the crags. We climbed for a day on single pitch sprot routes. Rumor has it there are multipitch routes up to 6 pitches there. The limestone is in good shape and the setting is nice...no traffic, no crowds (when I was there). Anyone else have more beta on HC? Quote
Jim Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Thanks for this link to the web page. I've been out at Big Bar for but didn't have time to get over to the crags that I heard about. I didn't know this was an established place. Very hot, miles from nowhere. Quote
rbw1966 Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 Hells Canyon: just on the idaho side from Halfway (or is it still half.com?) and upriver are a number of sport routes you can view from the campground. As mentioned before, no crowds, nice limestone and tons of routes. Since I was last there I heard its been developed extensively with a guidebook rumored to be on the way. Quote
