chirp Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Just a quick question, I didnt find a reference in the CC.com search engine so ill make a quick post, any info or links would be cool. Whats a decent cartridge stove, i am looking for lightweight and as efficient as possible. Two common choices...MSR pocket rocket or the Superfly. Which would perhaps the the better? the superfly seems to me a wee bit more powerful. I know this isnt brain surgery, im just looking for a thought or two thanks! Quote
Dru Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Primus and SnowPeak are other good choices dont just limit yourself to M(y)S(tove's)R(uined). Quote
fenderfour Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Markill Devil is light, but not as light as the Pocket Rocket. It's also dirt cheap ($20 at Second Ascent) and reliable. Quote
BreezyD Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Everyone has their opinions ... here's mine: I bought the Pocket Rocket this year for use primarily on Baker and Rainier trips and have been pleasantly suprised by its performance. It outperformed both the Simmerlite and the Giga Power on both trips and was very stable despite the hurkin capacity pot that I use for melting. It's super light to boot .... Brianna P.S. - Here is the link to my thread asking for the same opinions - hope it helps! http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/366034/page/1/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/all/fpart/1 Quote
chirp Posted August 23, 2004 Author Posted August 23, 2004 Cool info all esp the link BreezyD. Ill be doing the Wonderland in late sep and am trying to pare down to the basics and packing my whisperlite seemed like alot of extra stuff esp if im just going to be boiling powerbars . Quote
tivoli_mike Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I would put another vote in for the Pocket Rocket as well, especially when you combine it with a small titanium pot and a snow peak ( about half the size of an MSR one) canister, you have a got a great lightweight cooking system. Quote
IceIceBaby Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 I have the Primus Alpine (paid $20) and Yellow Stone ($18). the YS is part of my rig for hanging stove system and The Alpine is part of my ultra light cooking sys. I like them both and the most I like about this is, that all the canisters are interchangeable from the various manufactures so I go for the best deal. Quote
