mneagle Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 I just got back from a day at the SLC outdoor trade show. The new BD camalots were the item that grabbed my attention most. With improved engineering and better materials, the new camalots are incredibly light. Even the number 5 felt like it was made out of styrofoam. Now if they could only get the price down. The new titanium Leathermen are pretty cool too. No truly ground breaking finds, though. It was fun to be there at slocing time when the beer and sushi came out. Marmot was giving out pints of quality micro brew. Quote
pope Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 I heard they would be cheaper to produce, using a new technology that doesn't require machining. And 25% lighter! Quote
foraker Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Cheaper to produce does not always mean lower prices, just higher CEO salaries. Quote
Dru Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 so what weighs more now a friend or a camalot the same size? Quote

james_e Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 But what are these new metolius and trango cams they speak of? Nothin on the websites. As far as the new OPs go, they're just toys in my opinion. For 90 bucks each, they make choosing gear a little more mindless. That's about it. Curious about the metolius and trangos though... -james Quote
Dru Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 now when the beta is #4 camalot you will have to specify - OLD or NEW Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Clyde Soles has range info for the C4 cams on his website now: http://www.clydesoles.com/ClydeSoles/Front/Camsbrand.html Quote
iain Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 fair warning from a bd ski product customer - give 'em a year. Quote
NYC007 Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 I was told in SLC that they would be 20% lighter, and a some of te larger sizes would be cheaper. They are nice though. Alot of new cams are out, Omega, Metolius,Trango and BD. Quote
rr666 Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 The article states C2's may be on their way as well. Are they going to try to do what splitter cam has not been very successful doing? the C4's are nice, I got to see an early prototype last winter. Surprisingly light. However, it will be annoying that the sizes changed. but I never bought the 3.5 or 4.5, so I probably won't notice too much. Quote
larrythellama Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 now all they have to do is make trigger wires that are more durable. Quote
murraysovereign Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 now all they have to do is make trigger wires that are more durable. What, and put Snoboy out of a job? Quote
