DPS Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 (edited) Looking for beta on this route, has anyone done it? It sounds like you can ride the 7th Heaven chair lift and then make a casual approach? How hard is the climbing? Is there snow on the approach/descent? Thanks. Edited July 23, 2004 by danielpatricksmith Quote
PaulB Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Yes, you can ride up the 7th Heaven lift and make an easy traverse across the slopes above Lakeside Bowl to reach the base of the Blackcomb Buttress and DOA. Check the Whistler web cam for snow conditions. The Blackcomb Buttress is mostly 3rd class, maybe some 4th. Depending on your comfort level, you could do it without a rope. DOA is supposed to have a more technical pitch, so a small rack might be appropriate. After summitting, a fun option is to traverse all the way along the ridge that heads back towards the top of the 7th Heaven lift. Good exposure on a couple of towers, and "fine situations throughout". Keep an eye on the time, as its a long walk to the village if you miss the last chair down. Quote
snoboy Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 It is in the Alpine Select, as well as the old (92?) Squamish guide. Quote
Ced Posted July 27, 2004 Posted July 27, 2004 Are there any bolted belays on Blackcomb Buttress? Cheers Ced Quote
PaulB Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 No bolts that I noticed. If you wanted, you could build an anchor just about anywhere on the route. Quote
dberdinka Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 It is a very enjoyable route on nice blocky, solid rock. We scored free lift passes several years ago by cutting coupons out of the local free paper. Might check it out first before dropping $ 20+. Quote
