willstrickland Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 Mtn Home is pretty close to Boise, so the area you're thinking of is probably Lucky Peak canyon aka the Black Cliffs. They are maybe 20 minutes from Mtn Home, it's basically 5 minutes east of Boise on ID HWY21. Half-pitch length stuff, but lots of it, basalt trad and sport. Quote
Jarred_Jackman Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I don't know how you feel about basalt, but in Twin Falls there is a place called Duerkey's Lake (sp) and it's unlike any other basalt I've ever seen. It's overhung in places, pocketed, much different than the traditional splitter cracks, stair step jugs, or lava pockets at Vantage. I think it's totally worth a look. I will go back many times. Off_White Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I think it's Dierkes Lake, and there's also lots of BOULDERING. Had a fun day there after getting snowed out of City of Rocks, they were setting up for some archery competion, so you'd go around a corner and run into some towering bear or fleeing deer target. Added that surreal touch. It's quite a bit further from Mtn Home if you're looking for after work fun though. Quote
Bug Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 mt home is the capital of the middle of nowhere. Take comic books. Quote
Szyjakowski Posted May 25, 2004 Author Posted May 25, 2004 thanks for the info...keep it coming. Â bug- i don't know where my comic book collection is located. Quote
wscottf Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 You should blaze up to the Sawtooths and climb the Elephants Perch. I think it's 7 pitches of 5.7-5.9, and some kick ass scenery to boot. It's about a 3.5 hour drive from Boise to get to Redfish lake. Quote
Szyjakowski Posted May 25, 2004 Author Posted May 25, 2004 yup. eleperch is a definite rock i wanna get on but, partners... who is going to IDAHO!?? Quote
lummox Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 mountain home pretty much sucks ass for climbing. Quote

mtn_mouse Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 City of Rocks is really remote. But from Mountain Home, it is a reasonable drive. Quote
