bigwalling Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 Anyone have old leeper hangers they want to get rid of? Or any other junky hangers? Quote
OlympicMtnBoy Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 I've got some old home made jobbies, a couple of square Troll guys, and some nifty SMC 1/4 inch hangers. I like hanging them on the wall and showing em to sport climbers, but whatd'ya want em for? Quote
Szyjakowski Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 there are various antiques in the icicle cyn...just replace them with some new ones. Quote
Wallstein Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 Whatcha need them for? I have some I could part with for the right reason. Quote
Dru Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 i hear if you send ed leeper 6 old leeper hangers he sends you a free cam hook Quote
bigwalling Posted May 16, 2004 Author Posted May 16, 2004 No, not trying to get free cam hooks, I have enough of those anyways. I just really like the looks of old hangers. My wall in my bedroom is pretty boring right now except for the Half Dome poster. Â Or maybe they'll end up protecting some slab climbing while trying to get to some aid seam. Quote
Dru Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 i have about 35 leeper hangers with 1/4" buttonhead bolts attached but i'm saving them to establish an anachronism Quote
MisterMo Posted May 17, 2004 Posted May 17, 2004 i hear if you send ed leeper 6 old leeper hangers he sends you a free cam hook  Wuz there some issue with Leeper hangers that I missed along the way? He must have some reason. Quote
EWolfe Posted May 17, 2004 Posted May 17, 2004 studying stress/wear issues, I would guess as part of the reason? Quote

EWolfe Posted May 17, 2004 Posted May 17, 2004 speaking of hangers, the madrock ones are thinner with that flare at the cliphole. Quote

Is the flaw in the thinness of the material? or some weird metallurgical reason? or Quote
mattp Posted May 17, 2004 Posted May 17, 2004 I think its a "weird metallurgical reason." Anyway, it is not new news. 'Don't mean to be insulting, but if you didn't know about it, you havn't really been paying a lot of attention. Ed Leeper probably first announced his concerns over his bolt hangers over ten years ago, though he has now apparently renewed his campaign to get the word out. Quote

No offense taken; I haven't paid much attention. I did look around & find Leeper's recall. It seems that the problem is not Leeper stuff per se but much/all chromolly hangers of that vintage. Quote
