rbw1966
Anyone know why I can't see the icons? I can read posts but the beer drinking gremlins and icons are all blocked out. I've already deleted my cookies and cleaned out my cache.
catbirdseat
I think it must have something to do with the hacker.
chucK
Same thing's happening with me too. Only on my home computer (XP), not on "other" computer (2000)
jon
We have run into the problem of people "stealing" our images off of our server. They really aren't stealing the images, just our bandwidth. There are a lot of message boards doing this, especially users here that use other boards in addition to here. So we are looking at ways of blocking this and apparently there are some problems with our current method.
rbw1966
Thanks for the heads up. Anything I can do to restore the icons and gremlins?
jon
My guess is for some people who are connecting from home, that their ISP is caching some of the images on their servers, and is the root of the problem, so there isn't much you can do about it. We'll most likely try something else.

chucK
could it be a firewall issue?
rbw1966
I do most of my spraying from work so its possible I suppose. It just happened a couple days ago though. Its really impeding my spray experience.
gapertimmy
it might be a firewall issue, it is how the image is referrenced from the web server. as long as the originating request is from *.cascadeclimbers.com it will work fine. i think it might be more of a problem if your company or ISP has a caching system like microsoft's fantastic Proxy Server! Ducknut
Well I am having the same problem. Have cleared the local caches and cookies but still have the problem. I don't have the same problem with other BBs that I checked.
gapertimmy
as jon said, we put a file inside particular directories that makes it so folks can't 'hotlink' images. that is when you take an image hosted on another server and use it on a different webpage hosted on a different server. this practice is heavily used here at cc.com, but it actually steals bandwidth, which costs $ from our server. the fact that it is affecting only a few folks here on the site leads me to believe that your upstream provider or place of employement might be caching content on a server to speed things up, which in turn creates the problem. but then again i don't know jackshnizzle! badvoodoo
Personal firewalls (BlackIce, Norton Internet Security, etc.) can also cause this, I'm assuming because of the proxying service they use. If you're using one, disable it and reload the page to check. Not sure that there's a workaround, since desktop firewalls don't give much control over the access methods. badvoodoo
Oh, and I nominate copying this page for the "stophotlinking.html" redirect page.
