gapertimmy Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 so is glopstopper, or skin wax, just plain ol wax? can one simply rub a candle on their skins? i know its cheap but i wanna know. Quote
savaiusini Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 yeah, as far as I can tell, it's just a very soft wax. you can probably get away with just about anything. Be sure to apply it both with AND against the grain of your skinz. Quote
E-rock Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 A friend of mine used to melt candle wax (parafin) into petri dishes and hand out discs of wax to use as glop stopper. That's all it is, parafin with some purple coloring in it. DO IT! Quote
willstrickland Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Wonder if XC kick wax would work? You might get the best of both worlds, no gunked up skins and mad grip too. Quote
cracked Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Wonder if XC kick wax would work? You might get the best of both worlds, no gunked up skins and mad grip too. I highly doubt that kick wax would have any effect on the grippiness of skins. Plus, if it's wet enough that your skins are glopping, you'd need klister. Â Glopstopper is a bit softer than household paraffin (which works great for hot waxing if you're cheap!), but you probably won't notice a difference. Quote

Uh, glopstoppers purpose is to stop snow from building up on your skins, to decrease the grip if you will, - it's a glide wax, not a kick wax. Quote
cracked Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 Carl, reread Will's post above. He was suggesting that you use XC kick wax for "mad grip". Unless I misunderstand him and he means something else. Â And I don't globstopper my skins for glide, I wax em to prevent snow build up. It's not a glide wax, is an anti-snow wax. Quote
erik Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 pam spray works great and is cheap. also ascension skin glide is the same shit as gore's revivex. Quote

First hand experience only two days old reports that 1. Ordinary wax can be used as skin wax quite readily. No discernible difference. 2. Kick wax will greatly fuck up skins and will probably cause GREATER snow build up. Kick wax has a narrow (sub freezing) window of usage -- I went from -5 to +5 to -5 within about 3 hours on Sat. I waxed at the start and after going thru water then back to cold snow, my skis with kicker wax on em were pickin up freshies like shit on wool Quote
Stumph Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 Featherd Friends in Seattle sells NoStickUm, a fluorocarbon ski skin wax. Good Stuff! Quote
tele_nut Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 Letting snow build up on the bottom of your skins is just good hardman training. Don't be a pussy Tim. Go with it... Quote
gapertimmy Posted April 5, 2004 Author Posted April 5, 2004 but it makes my pussy hurt, i don't like when my pussy hurts, it affects my skiing. Quote
