The Good Book

Anyone done The Good Book in the Valley since the big rockfall a few years back? I was down there in 2002 but did not want to do it that soon after the event. Has it stabilized or are there scary blocks etc?

Not that I'm making plans for the near future, but it's nice to day dream about doing it someday. smirk.gif

I have a good friend who was on top of the route during the earthquake in 1980 (I think that was the year). He was very happy to be anchored to the wall, rather than the pillar, which moved back and forth rather distinctly. I was on The Mouth on the apron at the same time, ringside seat for a good rockslide off Liberty Cap. A few days later we descended from Middle Cathedral and the entire gully was covered in grit and impact scars, and all the small trees that were left had been skinned bare of bark by the rockfall. Yosemite is a scary place when it's in a geologically active mood.

The rangers still recommend avoiding it. After all there are a ton of good climbs in the valley that are clearer of rockfall.

True but how many other routes are the "best of the grade in the Valley"?

Ok, ok, I'll stop day dreaming about the Good Book. Baby is doing very well. She's been to the gym a few times already!
