Toast Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 Who knows what about this place? I know this is in Spray, but but it wasn't necessarilly climbing related, so it seemed like the right place. I've got a serious question here. There's a job opportunity for me, and I don't know anything about the place aside from the fact that it's on the way to Tahoe. I don't know how far or whether this place is just an icky Bellevue on the way there. Spray away. Thanks... Quote
Dan_Harris Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 Drove through the old town area once. Looked nice, but didn't impress me enough to go back. There's a prison there that Johnny cash sang about. Also a man made lake nearby. Sorry, it's not much help. Quote
catbirdseat Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 A great tune! Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues I hear the train a comin' It's rollin' 'round the bend, And I ain't seen the sunshine, Since, I don't know when, I'm stuck in Folsom Prison, And time keeps draggin' on, But that train keeps a-rollin', On down to San Antone. When I was just a baby, My Mama told me, "Son, Always be a good boy, Don't ever play with guns," But I shot a man in Reno, Just to watch him die, When I hear that whistle blowin', I hang my head and cry. I bet there's rich folks eatin', In a fancy dining car, They're probably drinkin' coffee, And smokin' big cigars, But I know I had it comin', I know I can't be free, But those people keep a-movin', And that's what tortures me. Well, if they freed me from this prison, If that railroad train was mine, I bet I'd move out over a little, Farther down the line, Far from Folsom Prison, That's where I want to stay, And I'd let that lonesome whistle, Blow my Blues away. Thinker Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 Folsom is really just a suburb or 'next door neighbor' to Sacramento. I have a bud who lives there and seems to enjoy it. The nearby Calaveras Dome has been on my 'to do' list for quite some time now. It's only 100 miles from Sacramento to Lovers Leap and South Lake Tahoe climbing. There should be tons of good rock climbing within 100 miles or less. Quote
scot'teryx Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 I lived there for about a year back in 93 and that area sucks hard. Travel 2 hours east and go to truckee or north shore Quote
Toast Posted February 13, 2004 Author Posted February 13, 2004 Sucks how hard? From demographics and what little I've found online, I suspect it's a pretty sterile Wonderbreadville Okay, that would suck pretty hard. Quote
erik Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 actually the area is not too bad. i would move to norcal b4 moving anywhere else. and you are closer then 100 miles to lovers leap more like 60 miles or so. lots of recrations. folsom lives pretty much inbetween hwy 50(road to s lake) and hwy 80 (road to n lake) the bay area is about an 1.5 hours away which includes the ocean and what not. the air here in salt lake is far worse then the area in the central valley. if i were you i would investigate. erik Quote
Stonehead Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 Didn't see Folsom listed in this list of craptowns. Quote
catbirdseat Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 I can't believe that Brawley, CA or San Bernardino, CA aren't on that list. Washinton State doesn't have any on the list. What about Kent or Yelm? Quote
