If I told Explorer to "delete temporary files" yesterday...how can I still have over 30K files that my virus scan software is trying to sort through? Scanning my computer is taking f'ing forever! madgo_ron.gif

IE's temporary files are different than the temporary files used by the rest of your computer. They may be scattered around in some places (like in a badly-behaving program's installation directory) or they might be in the system temp directory (usually C:\WINNT\temp). You can delete anything in the system temp directory.

Thanks. The files were in the "documents & settings" folder and I thought it said temporary internet files. The scan completed after an hour and the system got a clean bill of health. I still don't think I need that many temp files clogging up my hard drive... I have XP so I can't "see" anything in the system folder.

I have XP so I can't "see" anything in the system folder.

Open any folder, then click

Tools, Folder Options

On the "View" tab, scroll down and find "show hidden files and folders". click on it to select it.

Also DESELECT "Hide protected operating system files"

Those two changes will allow you see all of your files.

Enjoy your newfound power!

just erase and reinstall. If you have not had to do this in the last year, I doubt you're actually using windows.

You're such a Unix geek. grepin' with the best of them.
