I have had good prints from shutterfly.com You need to download at a high resolution to get better prints or if you want larger than 4x6. Don't send photo you've reduced to fit in emails.

We use the Apple photo store right out of iPhoto. It goes to kodak's ofoto. We like the quality, but you can get pics cheaper.

I hear Costco does a decent job. Also, the Canon 900 and 9000 series inkjet printers do a good job. I have an S9000 (new version is i9100) that makes beautiful 13x19 prints.

Yes the service can make a difference. But, imo, the quality of your file and basic Photoshop skills can make the biggest difference. If your files are going to end up as prints it almost always helps to sharpen. Scott Kelby's books are great for learning digital manipulation and printing.
