RobBob Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 This is the Jimi Live album to get if you don't have it (Band of Gypsies) Hell, I was only 10 when I heard "Message of Love," and I was hooked on Hendrix from then on. Quote

erik Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 i liked the opening of the song machine gun on the band of gypsys. JIMI: "HAPPY NEW YEAR FIRST OF ALL. I HOPE WE'LL HAVE A MILLION OR TWO MILLION MORE OF THEM... IF WE CAN GET OVER THIS SUMMER, HE HE HE. RIGHT I'D LIKE TO DEDICATE THIS ONE TO THE DRAGGIN' SCENE THAT'S GOIN' ON ALL THE SOLDIERS THAT ARE FIGHTIN' IN CHICAGO, MILWAUKEE AND NEW YORK... OH YEAS, AND ALL THE SOLDIERS FIGHTIN' IN VIETNAM. LIKE TO DO A THING CALLED 'MACHINE GUN'." and live at winterland has some great cuts too....red house!!!! Quote

terrible_ted Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Good call PP! I'd love to hear another version of Gypsy Boy (new rising sun)... of which I think there's only two other decent recordings. I think one was a live cut from Rainbow Bridge... After years immersed in squalid Hendrix re-issues, I've largely tuned them out. Gotta admit, however, that a live version of Steppin' Stone remastered back in '85 or so was smoking hot. Seems like a good argument for file sharing. Jimi's dead - he doesn't need the money. -t Quote
